Why do strobe lights distort your reality?

I went to a haunted house last night with lights strobe. I went out and I did not know how to walk or to understand things. It was almost as if I was walking, but my mind did not. why strobe lights can do this?

Visual persistence is that this feature allows phisiological film and television to give the brain the impression of motion when images are quickly flashed on a screen. What happens is that our brains banned individual images or images that are actually shown on the screen. Because images are displayed on the screen faster than the brain can discern all, our mind sees them as a movement. Lights strobe on the other hand, the flash and get off at a relatively slow speed. When they are out we can not see anything, so our brain does no visual image to process. When they are on, we see that the image is around us in the view. In this case, the "frames" are much slower than films (~ 24 frames / sec) or TV (~ 30 frames / sec), so that we can actually see the individual images (for example, the scene around us, when the light is on).
